Áine explains the session:

“Everyone brought their breakfast to eat together and talked us through what they were having.

“We had a variety of cereals, scrambled eggs, toast and drinks.

“Everyone enjoyed their yummy breakfasts while catching up with each other.

“We looked at some pictures of breakfasts from different countries and guessed where they where from.

“One of our young people told us about their breakfasts on their holidays in France and pronounced some of the foods in French.

“We watched a short video of children trying different breakfasts from around the world.

“We also looked at some pictures from my holidays as one of the young people had grizzly bears on his T-shirt and I told him that I had seen bears for the first time last weekend!

“This was a nice chilled out session and everyone had lots to eat. We were all looking forward to another food themed session with Danni this afternoon.”

“I had 6 young people join me for a Mad Hatter's Tea party.

“We started off by chatting about what film/book the Mad Hatter and who all joined him for his tea party.

“We then watched a short clip on YouTube of the Tea Party in Alice in Wonderland.

“We then had a small competition where we told each other silly jokes to try and get each other to laugh - the more people you got laughing the higher your points (one young person even had his joke book out).

“To end the session we played pastacup where we tried to throw the pasta in the cup.

“All young people appeared to enjoy the session and I look forward to seeing them this afternoon.”

Zoom participants use emotion cards sharing their feelings with the group

9b80b373-cc3f-493c-a282-b01730432703.jpeg

This morning (Thursday 23 July 2020) we started the Coffee Break and Social Zoom session by asking young people to use their emotion cards (which they received in their activity pack) to tell us how they are feeling.

f246a0cd-e163-471e-85ba-56fa08979a51.jpeg

Followed by Nicole asking young people a set number of questions in which they used their emoji cards to answer.

For example: “would you eat juice with cereal instead of milk?”

32b5fcb3-3428-41d2-8340-a8127bec92f4.jpeg

The young people then had the opportunity to ask the group their own question.

The questions which were asked allowed young people the opportunity to communicate with one another, and learn facts about each other.

This exercise promoted interpersonal and listening skills as well as patience.

This activity also provided young people with opportunity to recognise commonalities and differences.

We finished up our session with Naomi providing an insight on this afternoon’s Arts & Crafts session.

Well done to all participants for taking part.
